“The voice of photography rings brave and true in these images, many of which were taken in Chickasaw County in Northeast Mississippi. Many of these photos date from the sixties and are beautiful, sometimes disturbing documents about a place where Pat spent his early years. As a Mississippian and fellow Southerner, I am grateful to Pat for sharing these images with us.” William R. Ferris, Author of The South in Color: A Visual Journal.

Reserved Mr. Memory contains 61 color photos (59 film and 2 digital) taken in the South (half of them in Mississippi) from 1967-2017, plus text.
Afterword by William Ferris.
144 pp., hardbound, 10.4 x 10.8 inches, printed on fine art paper.

The photos include portraits and landscapes, and touch on childhood, family, old age, music, religion, food, fishing, and folk art. The text mentions the surprising similarities between the American South and the part of Europe where the author now lives (Lithuania): both places with a strong rural and religious heritage, but poorer than most of their respective continents; both having sometimes been condescended to as “hinterlands” by the American and European would-be cultural elites; and both places roiled in recent years by the reshaping of historical memory and controversies over the removal of historical monuments.
