"Roman Dial has written a brave and marvelous book. It's a page-turner that will rip your heart out." --Jon Krakauer

The true story of a man's two-year quest to unravel the mystery of his son's disappearance in the Costa Rican jungle.

In July 2014 Roman Dial's son Cody emailed saying he was about to backpack for 4 days in the in the Corcovado National Park, a dense, untracked jungle that shelters miners, poachers, and drug smugglers. Roman thought of forbidding it but his son was 27 and had trekked with his father throughout the world.

When Cody didn't return, Dial and his wife went to Costa Rica and began what became a two-year search for the young man. Part detective story, part adventure story and part mediation on the responsibilities of fatherhood and the nature of risk, it's page-turning narrative nonfiction in the spirit of John Krakauer's Into the Wild and the "new true crime" deep dive hits like Serial and True Detective.

Dial is an Alaskan scientist and National Geographic Explorer. He has written for many outdoor magazines and has a strong relationship with National Geographic. We expect good coverage in that market and national media. 450 ABA Box Mailing.
