Minutes after giving a speech at his investiture, the newly elected president of the state bar association does the unthinkable. He kills his best friend.

Sam Thompson and Jeff Freeman become best friends on the day they meet the summer they turn eight. They explore the backwoods of their hometown when they’re boys and the wilderness of America when they’re men. Sam serves as the best man in Jeff’s wedding and, a decade later, they swap roles. They name their sons for each other and are best friends until the day Jeff dies.

I Remember Everything traces their lives for more than five decades, from growing up to growing old, and follows them on grand adventures, including two magnificent road trips. The first is to New England the year they graduate from high school, the second to the mountains of the West with their sons more than thirty years later. The book also explores their mutual love for the music of the late John Prine, one of the greatest songwriters America has ever known. “I Remember Everything” was the title of his last song.

But the book is about more than an enduring friendship and memorable music. It’s also about Jeff’s death and all that happens in its wake. How and why does Sam kill Jeff? Does Sam do the right thing the night it happens and all the days that follow? How can a man kill his best friend and deliver his eulogy four days later?

Author Brooks Eason has created a riveting story and two unforgettable characters in I Remember Everything. Readers will come to know and love Sam Thompson and Jeff Freeman and remember everything about them.

Brooks Eason was born in a home for unwed mothers in New Orleans, grew up in Tupelo, and has lived in and around Jackson since 1982. He retired after forty years of practicing law to a life of walking dogs and writing books. He has three children and five grandchildren and lives in Madison with his wife Carrie, three rescue dogs, and an orange tabby cat rescued from under a shrub alongside Frontage Road in Jackson. In their spare time, Brooks and Carrie host house concerts and dance in the kitchen. I Remember Everything is his seventh book.
