A never-before published picture book from Maurice Sendak, the Caldecott Medal-winning creator of Where the Wild Things Are, Hans Christian Andersen Award winner, and National Medal of Arts recipient, written with his longtime collaborator Arthur Yorinks.

From Maurice Sendak, the Caldecott Medal-winning creator of Where the Wild Things Are, and Arthur Yorinks, the author of Caldecott Medal-winner Hey, Al, comes a never-before-published picture book, Presto and Zesto in Limboland. This marvelous tale tells the story of two friends, Presto and Zesto, and how they find themselves lost in the magical, mysterious place called Limboland. Author Arthur Yorinks said: “Nearly twenty years ago, Maurice and I, inspired by our friendship, conceived this book about two friends making their way in a very mixed-up world.”

The illustrations were first created for a London Symphony Orchestra performance of Leos Janacek’s Rikadla, which sets a series of Czech nursery rhymes to music. Casting aside the rhymes, Maurice and Arthur (who called each other Presto and Zesto) took on the challenge of creating an original book out of the ten illustrations. The result is a treasure come to light after twenty years.
